After seeing prime skunks go for more than coyotes this year, I got to planning for next year. I have a fair number of 120s, 30 marten boxes and no marten. Thought I might put them to work next season on my coyote lines to add some fur to the shed.

I’ve trapped hundreds of skunks in box traps and a lot in foot traps. Only ever caught a few in 110/120s. Usually incidental to mink trapping.

I know the boxes will work for skunks. My question is on adding striker bar(s) to 120s. Will it add enough extra to the impact to be worthwhile or just leave them as is? I ask because going through my 120s I found one that someone had added a striker bar to and it got me to wondering if it would be a benefit in killing skunks at the boxes.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you add strike bars to a regular 120 it will increase the clamping force but you need to upgrade to magnum springs.
If you dont it slows down the jaws resulting in reduced striking force.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Skunks im my boxes set with 120 victors don't move. Don't think you need to add anything. Trigger placement for a perfect strike would be more important

Never tried striker bars but the regular ole 120 or 110 really knocks them out

What do you consider the correct trigger placement for skunks? I’ve have my best luck in mink and bobcat boxes with the trigger on the bottom spread in a wide V.

I really don't think you need to add striker bars. I caught a few skunks in mink boxes this past fall and those never left the box. Just spread the wires a bit so their head will fit you will be fine. Their shoulders will trip the traps.

I use victors with four way triggers. My boxes are set up with a notch dead center top for the dog. I put my wires in a vee spread apart about 3-to 3 1/2 inches [Linked Image]
