My son is attempting to trap some muskrats out of a lagoon. Do you guys wash them? Or what steps should we take to clean them? Before skinning I assume. He wants to try and put these up. They will be the first fur we have tried to put up. We will probably get them tanned and maybe have a headband or hat made from them for my wife

Rats usually aren't dirty and just need to dry before skinning and putting up.

I just didn’t know from being in the lagoon if they would be stinky? Hopefully he has some full traps in the morning and we can start our fur handling adventure

I tumble all my rats before I skin them, it makes a difference in how the fur looks/feels.

Are you talking about a sewage lagoon.
If so you could be exposed to hepatitis.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
