New member and new trapper here. I connected with a couple of old trappers in my area (I am in Eastern Ontario, but met some old trappers who used to trap in Quebec), and got some advice and hand-me-downs. One of the hand-me-downs was this big body-grip trap that "would break my arm" I'm told. Can't figure out what it is. Anyone recognize it?

Since this is my first post I should also say thanks to you fellas - as I've been learning trapping and fur handling, I look up a lot of questions online that lead to discussions in this forum. Not sure if it's scary or heart-warming that discussions on here inform newbies like me - I'll leave that to your interpretation,

J

Hey Warren, nice to see another Ontario trapper!! No real clue on your trap, might be some kind of beaver trap, or maybe ground hog? Cool trap for the collection regardless.

It is a Canada Trap, made by The Canada Trap Company in Ontario in the early 1970's. The pitchfork looking part is a safety setting tool. After spreading the jaws the middle prong goes into the tube the springs are on to hold it open while you put the curved piece in to set it.

I had 10 of those traps they did catch some beaver. But I sold them for $30.00 each to some trap collectors. I picked them up from some old timer in Canada. I got them for 2 boxes of 12-gauge shot gun shells.
