This is a first for me caught this female this morning in a Duke #3 pipe dream set on a mowed path intersection. Now get this 3 days ago I caught young female on a hays set about 20 feet away as I'm more or less done trapping only have 5 traps out here at home. As a grand experiment I tinkled on the pipe just to see if anything would happen. Years ago my ol dog always investigated all my pee spots even days later, either this was a really dumb coyote or curiosity just got the better of her. As for bait it was ground up beaver with dobbins bait solution that had been in there a couple of weeks

I always felt a little sorry for yotes when I get caught up like that he’s in a bind lol !

This is the last one I caught like that, not sure if they are jumping like a fox does catching voles or if they just miss the pan with the first foot and second foot hits it? This was an old dog for my area.

I've caught a few. Here is one.

First time for a bobcat this year. MB550 so yes it is a very small one. LOL

I think the trap moving so they try to pounce in the "mouse" is the best working theory for this. i can't imagine the missing the pan thing works without them standing on the dog or the dead spot of the trap with the other foot.

I've caught half a dozen or more that way in wolf traps. My theory is the pan tension on the wolf traps is high enough that they don't set it off until they place the second foot on it. One I caught by one front foot and the opposite hind foot, that was one helpless coyote, wasn't even hardly a catch circle, he was hogtied so he couldn't hardly fight the trap.

I have serious doubts of coyotes 'pouncing" while they work a set. Even the bolders ones come it with a bit of caution

I get them in trench sets by both feet quite a bit. Bridger #3.

Yep it happens sometimes

stepdown type dirtholes/trench will produce a lot more double hung critters.
