Was at the great american outdoor show today and was looking at Benchmade knifes. Just had a hard time pulling the trigger on one. Are they worth the money? How do the edge holds up? Was looking at the flyaway and mini bugout. Just wondering if anyone and any experience with these and are the worth the $$$.

I have both of those. Benchmade makes a good knife. I have others as well. I really like the the super freek and the mini freek.

I have a real hard time spending that kind of money on a knife when you can do the same thing with a much, much cheaper knife. I have a couple that are around $100+- but they are kinda special to me.

The top one is a bugout. If they are too hard to sharpen as they vary in the steel used….just box em up and send em to benchmade to sharpen for free.they use to charge for return shipping but they ship em back at no charge now too. Just don’t cut yourself !

I'm the kind of person to have either a cheap knife I sharpen a lot, or a hard knife I spend longer sharpening once but lasts way longer. (Don't drop it.) Either way I don't want to spend 200+ for a 1095 blade that's bulk manufactured.

I almost got me a bench made. Not even sure what model i was looking at. The one I was thinking about you could work the mechanical assit with either hand. I liked that because I wanted it for my left side. Already have decent Gerber carry on the right.

Be careful when buying Benchmade there are a lot of fakes out there that are hard to tell from original Benchmade knives. Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer

ADC, I don’t know what you are using the knife for but I have went with the outdoor edge 3.0 razorlite edc. I purchased a set of drop point, caping, and gut hook blades. I switch the blades to suit my needs and they sharpen pretty easily. You can get replacement blades online fairly cheap. Eric

Might want to look at who and what Benchmade supports before you decide to support them.

I took an ole boy on a heckuva duck hunt last year, and out of nowhere he sent me this orange handled fillet knife. I threw it in the drawer with others. Some days later my boy saw the box and made a big deal about this being a Benchmade knife. I’d never heard of them. I got to using it and it is incredible how long it will hold an edge. Debone and trim up an entire deer and never touch it up. When you do hit it a lick or two on a steel it’s super sharp and ready to rock. Dang good knife.

I have been looking at a few for years but nothing fits my hand and screaming I have got to have this like my combat survival Benchmade did. Unfortunately that Benchmade had mole compatible sheath and I had it on an assullt pack upside down so I could access it with the pack on. It worked great untill I was on a youth hunt on a 50k acre refuge hunt on an old ordinance testing area. While dragging a deer with the boys it came in snapped and I didn't notice it was gone untill after we left. the property is restricted and I couldn't get back in to look for it after 8pm. You get one day during set hours.

So I typically use Kershaw because theybare good enough and cheap enough it doesn't hurt to bad if they get lost or broken.

thanks Dave I didn't know that won't buy another one.

1000000% this.

I've seen a lot of clones for all the high end knives. I wouldn't buy any on the secondary market. Some are almost identical, down to bar codes, packaging, everything.

I have more knives than anyone should need in several lifetimes. Everything from the cheapest little pocket knives to a fairly large collection of old butcher knives, a kitchen drawer full of various slicers from paring knives to 15" brisket knives, to a dozen + fillet knives, several skinner style knives of various sizes and shapes, a couple or three dozen resharpened butcher shop knives, even a switch blade and a couple butterfly knives, a few hunting knives mainly Buck, a couple nice Case pocket knives, even a couple machetes, but the one style I don't have are those with the interchangeable scalpel type blades. I had one and sold it off fast. I'm not careful enough to use them. If you cut into bone or teeth as I'm prone to do while skinning they are instantly dull. They just aren't for me.

MKT, Montana Knife Company, has been running a LOT of prime time TV commercials for their product. Can't imagine how that's gonna pay off for them?

Look on you tube for the Walmart bug out killer. It’s d2 steel exact copy of a bench made bug out and comes in at a whopping $10. In the torcher test they actually snap the bench made because it doesn’t have metal liners in the handle. I’m sure the blade isn’t as good but if you can sharpen a knife I couldn’t justify paying for a bench made over the ten bucks for this knife. It does hold a decent edge been carrying one for the past few months

Guess I will cross BM off my list of good knives. I have 3. Not buying anymore! Might look at spyderco. Look for a Gayle Bradley 2. Strong handle and M4 steel.
24 hour campfire and Bladeforums.com are good places to find used or pre owned knives.

Apparently more to the BM politics. The 2 democrats BM supported were right of center dems. Gear junkie had a pie e on BM and their politics. BM attends the annual NRA convention.
Oregon requirs confiscated firearms to be destroyed. OR. City police asked for BM help as BM had the equipment needed.
Maybe too soon to condemn!

Yes, in my opinion, BM are worth the money. I’ve had one for umpteen years now that is an auto opening type knife. I am fairly rough on tools, but this knife still functions. In fact it took out two hogs this past weekend with ease, lol. Granted they might have weighed a solid 10# max, but still a clean through and through shanking!
