Looks like my season was brought to an abrupt end. I slipped in the rocks on an icy patch Monday. Foot slid until it came to rest against an immovable rock at which point my foot was forced to move in a direction not intended by the manufacturer.

So my ankle is broken requiring surgery and a plate.

One of the reasons for mentoring new trappers is that in events like these they can help you pull your line. Two fine young men I’ve been mentoring are helping me today to get them all sprung before I go in for surgery tomorrow.

I don’t do well with forced down time but I’ve been through enough surgeries with my wife to know I need to let it mend properly.

Marty, accidents happen to all of us sooner or later. It is all in a days outing it seems. I am hoping you have a successful surgery and get thru to a full recovery. The best to you.

It is definitely something that happens, I broke my ankle in December of 21 setting bobcat traps in the rocks.
If they didn't tell you already take a low dose aspirin everyday so blood clots don't form.
I would also look into taking Alpha Lapoic Acid to repair any nerve damage.

Well that sucks. I slipped on the rocks down on the Salmon a few years ago, didn't hurt my leg, but when I stuck my hands out to catch myself I dislocated my ring finger on my left hand. Stood up and looked at it and it was pointing the wrong direction. Grabbed that thing right quick and pulled it back into joint and pulled my wedding band off before the finger swelled up. Dang that smarted putting it back into socket! Was about eight months before I could put my wedding band back on, and this is the first winter it hasn't bothered me in the cold weather.

Dang Marty hate to hear this...I hope you are doing better today. Good thing you had some "helpers" in this situation.

Well the surgery went well yesterday. I have a six inch plate over the lower fibula and this stylish new boot to wear for a few weeks. My wife and Mom are doing some serious doting and spoiling on me. I could get used to it. I told them maybe I could get a bell but I didn't want the headlines in a few weeks to read, "Man's mother and wife indicted on murder charges."

It'll be interesting trying to drive a stick when I get back to well enough to drive.
