Silage storage in contiuous plastic wrap is getting more common place as is the bulk and single bale wrap. I am with Danny on his assessment.

I think the cat caught something on or maybe trapped under a layer of plastic and just torn into the animal(s) and ate everything in its way to get to the prey specie. JMO

My guess the cat figured out that the voles love to make their runs under the round bales and up under the plastic wrap. Once the bag is opened on one end it will leave some loose excess plastic each time some material is used for feeding.

I took the time to open up some of those white plastic pieces. The interesting thing each individual piece is almost a perfect configuration of a cats open mouth. A somewhat rounded oval shape.

That tells me that it was biting thru the plastic multiple times. I didn't count the pieces but I am guessing 30 + pieces in total.

Get a half dozen coyotes eating a dead horse they clean it up pretty quick. They will eat, run off puke and bury it. its how they clean one up so quick. They will also gorge themselves and sleep a bit. Some gets buried. No way they remember where it all is. have no problem eating somebody elses stash.

I've seen coyotes drag the stuff around. Whether they ate any I don't know, didn't investigate.

You can stop down Ashley and we can school you on stomach content evaluation before I dispose of this wealth of information. Hands on is the best teaching and learning scenario I have found. I won't even charge you for admission.:) I have some spare but used gloves you can borrow also.

To add to this topic. I decided to do a count on the white plastic pieces this morning after I gave it some more thought. I estimated the piece count to be in the neighborhood of 30 plus.

It actually turned out to be 38 pieces. For reference I pulled them all apart to get a more accurate count and also opened a few up to get a size reference.

I also placed a golf ball and a quarter amongst the pieces for a better size reference,

They did vary in size. Some pieces however represented a clear symmetrcal bite pattern. Obviously, and clearly it had very sharp shearing teeth and many plastic pieces had tooth puncture marks that were easily distinguishable. Some showed clearly some bite and tear patterns as well.

It looks eerily like the first beaver I skinned and fleshed.

That is an excellent point. I routinely inspect grouse crops and fish stomachs to learn what they've been eating so I can more successfully target them.

That's the extent of my dissections though, well, except for wild turkey gizzards because I collect the more interesting gravel.

I may have to start dissecting some carnivore stomachs.

Eh...wot?

I once caught a female bobcat in late spring which looked very pregnant and was lactating. I opened it up to find that it was not pregnant, but had sections of a huge king snake in her belly. She just cleanly sliced the snake into 2" pieces and swallowed them whole. Maybe she was planning on regurgitating the pieces to feed her kits.
