How would you trap muskrats in a private 5 acre pond? Mind you this open water here the south with access around the entire pond. Shoreline is not shallow along, but the banks are flat.
I'm thinking lots of colony traps. What else would work.
The owner wants them gone and not afraid to spend the money getting rid them .
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,Sarge

Outlet or inlet? If so would block them off with conibear.I would set up any feedbeds. You can also slick up a spot on the bank with your boot and lure and set that up as well.

Make some slides. Slick em up use some lure a 1.5 infront of it. Or make some rat floats.

Unless you can find the runs, colonies and even body grippers are poor to marginal at best. With flat banks, look for the areas where there is the most rise from the bank to see if there are den runs. As stated above you may need to create slides or baited sets to catch those that are there. You don't state what you have for vegetation, submerged or emmergent. You should be finding feed beds and toilets if there is a decent population in the pond. Footholds will be your best traps on feed beds, toilets etc.

Walk around pond find a underwater run then put a conibear in the run or colony trap in the run, if there coming out of the water put a foothold at the base of the slide with a long chain or drowner. If it’s iced over where your at even better, stick a colony trap or conibear right in the bubble trails
