What’s your favorite marten trap and why?

120 conibear, or one of it's clones. Less fur damage, and pitch in the fur, quick death, the sets made with them are usually much more weather proof than footholds.

120 conis are one of my favorite marten traps. 160s just seem too big and not worth the extra money since a 120 will do the same job. I also use 110 conibears when I run out of 120s. They don’t have the second spring so they are slightly harder to make a vertical tree set for marten with. But they make excellent squirrel traps!

LDL B 120 mag.
The dog nor trigger ever touches the delicate fur.
Most popular trap with all the marten trappers here.

#1 jump. They are light, quick to set, and you don’t have to bring back a frozen animal with a trap on it.

Let the haters hate…..

#1 short spring victor, #1 jump, #120 conibear (in that order). By volume I use more 120's than anything, but it's not as much fun to walk up to as a marten in an old #1

Victor #0 long spring has just enough power to hold a marten and the jaw spread is perfect. I only use them on leaning poles. My next favorite are the Victor #1 shorties.......

Dog faced pony soldier and proud of it!

The #0’s are nice also. I had boxes set up for them. Pretty nice having frozen straight marten hanging there.

Use a mix of 120’s and 160’s. the 160’s get the nod in areas I’m expecting fisher and they work just fine for marten.

1 1/2 jump
Light and effective.
Body grippers are for people that can only trap a marten with a box(:

Why the #1 shorty over a regular #1?

155's in a mailbox or a cubby with a 1.5 here in MI but our season and population is tiny compared to most.
