Do any of you live around the Idaho Panhandle? I am planning on coming up to turkey hunt the last full week of April and would like to get general thoughts on hunting in Idaho. I have hunted plenty of Eastern's, but have never hunting a Merriam. What should I expect, and what would you focus on to give yourself the best chance to get into some turkeys? I see a lot of state national forest land, as well as good amount of timber company land. I figured that would be a good place to start. What are your thoughts? -WP

If I was you, I'd look to easterrn Montana or Wyoming for true Merriams. I mean birds with white edging on their feathers. Idaho birds are so crossed up, you'll find birds of all different shades in the same flock . Anywhere from almost white to chocolate type birds. Good luck.

My brother lives in North Idaho, you don't want those birds. Those are tough, stringy mountain birds that taste like a shoe. Go shoot one further south, or in Montana where there's some good agriculture going on, those are fat healthy birds.
