I have a Stihl electric saw (I'll have to look at it, but I think it has a 14 inch bar)

I bought it mainly to keep in the truck for occasional use.

I never did extensive run-time tests, but it's done what I need it to, (without the gasoline smell in my truck)

only thing I don't care for is (like many/most Stihls I've been around), it leaks oil just sitting there.

especially when you have to check traps after a wind event!

if you want a saw to feed a woodburning stove for northern winters, buy a gas saw.

but for occasional use, it IS pretty handy!

Milwaukee 14inch. I like it for stop and go use while on the atv, snowmobile, or in the pick-up. It has it's place but will never replace the gas saws for production work.

For the last couple of years, I used a Milwaukee 14 inch saw. I went with that brand because I have other batteries that can swap onto it. It has been useful for medium work, limbing up trees, having around the sawmill, brush removal, can even handle cutting to stove length anything less than 8 inch diameter with little issue. It's easy to have along in a vehicle, you don't have to worry about gas going bad. An extra chain is worth it if you have a big project. For any felling, or heavy work, a gas saw isn't going to be replaced. But that electric saw is able to do more than people give credit. It's worth it in my book.

Keeping a sharp chain is probably the best advice I could add for max battery life.

I have the 60v Dewalt with a 20 inch bar and it works good, I would buy the 15 or 18 amp hour battery it adds weight but they’re worth it.

I was thinking one might be nice for cutting holes in the ice for beaver sets. I figured they don't get gas and oil all over the gear in the back of the truck.

Still use chain oil, switch it out to vegetable oil when I'm cutting holes in the ice. Nice thing is it runs with a push of a button, no more wearing yourself out trying to start a wet/frozen gas chainsaw.
