The Utah Trapper Association fur sale is this weekend. Fur checkin starts Friday afternoon. My cats and fox (incidentals - I didn't target any canines this year) are ready to go. We'll see what western cats are bringing when the results are in next week.

Dan, those are beautiful cats and fox. Isn't it nice to have a hobby that helps pay for itself. Also, It's interesting how several of your cats have the greyish backs where here on the other side of the state a grey color cat is a rarity. Anyway, good luck at the Nephi sale. I'm confident you'll do much better than the average with those furs.,

Why is the sale the same weekend as Colorado?

The Utah sale is always a weekend about a week into February.

It isn’t the same weekend as Colorado. Check the dates.

Colorado sale inspection Monday and Tuesday
Colorado live auction Wednesday and Thursday
Travel day Friday
Utah sale Saturday and Sunday.

Has been that way for years. Works goods as the 2 sales aren’t that far apart geographically - at least not by western standards.

The western trapper associations have pretty much worked out a schedule where nobody conflicts. When you get to the SW - Arizona and New Mexico - there can be conflicts but usually the NW and SW buyers are 2 different groups.

Due to season closing dates clash with the timing of that states sale, but the minute one state changes their sale date - the whole system is in chaos and disarray.

Leave well enough alone.

Curious for how long its been that way? It's been awhile since I was at the Colorado and Nephi sale so it could have been that way then. As I remember they were much bigger sales then than now. As far as Arizona and New Mexico. Never did New Mexico but was at Arizona. I know a some major buyers send representatives to the New Mexico sale depending on the amount of goods offered.

Any one at the sale in Nephi? Wonder how much fur is getting checked in.

Slick pan - that arrangement has been in place for at least 12 years, very possibly longer. Seems to be working.

Isn't the Utah season still open? Why would there be a sale before the season ends? Will there be a later sale?

Yes Bobcat season is open till March 1st. UTA just has this one sale a year.
