Showed up a couple days ago. I had just caught a good sized female in the same spot a couple days prior, it's possible he was following her trail. I keep looking at the photos saying yeah that's definitely a coyote... pretty sure... I think. It's the first time I've seen him, could just be passing through never to return. I had my eye on a melanistic one last year in this same area until a hunter on neighboring property shot it before I could get a closer look myself. But this guy looks like something different entirely. [Linked Image]

In my opinion, I’m not sure that is 100% coyote. Looking forward to hearing other opinion.

Some strong Malamute traits.

Yeah the face is what really threw me off, otherwise the build, tail, head, fur, all says coyote as well as the way he carried himself like with his head in this photo. I got several pictures of him and he seemed to behave exactly like a yote would. I've had plenty of domestic dogs pass by on camera and they always seem to behave differently from a yote. I’d struggle with that one. Looks very doggy. Even his demeanor!?

We had a dog named Eli, who before he was given to us roamed wherever he wanted. He knocked up at least 7 neighborhood dogs, before we got him and 1 after. During coyote breeding season, he would show up all cut up. Right after we were given him, by his owner who let him wander, a little female coyote come up to mate with Eli, 5 times in 3 days, in our backyard, with us out there. She would trot up to him, touch noses and sometimes flag her tail. Our female German Shepherd chased her off each time. A lot of the local coyotes show his genetics, with dark saddles, large size, deeper howls and ears that don't stand up right.

That animal appears to be at least half domestic dog.

I had an area that would produce coyotes like that every year I was there. Probably three or four years running.

The way it holds it tail low does look very coyote like. Dogs hold their tails high.

I'm thinking I'm with Keith on this one, some kind of coydog. I have been trapping this area for years and everything has been standard issue yote until this year which is interesting. I picked up this yote here a few weeks ago and from head to toe it was 100% coyote... until you got to the tail. That's the first one I've ever caught with a tail tip that was solid white. I began to wonder then if there wasn't some domestic dog genetics coming into play. Unless I'm mistaken and this is more common than I thought, but it's the first white tipped tail yote I've ever caught. I do know there are a lot of intact male domestic dogs that seem to roam around. Nobody that I know with a malamute/husky but who knows where that guy came from. [Linked Image]

Nothing like that here. Ever. I feel sorry for you all that have to deal with hybrids. We have very few dogs that run wild. I'm not sure why.

Has shoulders like a Wolf. Probably coyote and someone’s pet dog mix.
