Go to the start of any dog race and you'll see lots of those! Bottom line I wouldn't have posted the picture on any site! Lol. Why not?! It is an interesting critter that passed by a trail camera and got it's photo taken. I shared it because I've been trapping for many years, caught many coyotes, seen many photos of coyotes and domestic dogs on camera, and this is the first time I have seen anything like this. I know most of the local dogs within a couple mile radius, at least the ones that like to roam, and never once have I seen this. I am quite confident this is not someone's "pet", it is wild. And as such I posted it just so others could weigh in on whether they had any experience with a critter that looks this way. To me, it has every feature from the hackles, build, tail of a coyote you'd see around here, but clearly the spots above the eyes are not a coyote trait. So I was opening it to others to weigh in. And jbyrd I didn't miss someone's pet, I didn't miss anything because I had no active K9 sets in the area to begin with. I had not reset the area after I caught the female yote a couple days prior because I was short on time. I'm not sure where you are in KY, maybe you aren't far from where I'm trapping. Maybe you should give me your number and if I end up getting close to this one, you can come over and get an up close view since you say your eyes are so bad. Maybe pet it on the head and feed it some kibble since you're so convinced it's somebody's pet lol.

ADC, what general part of Iowa are you located, if you cut the state into 4 pieces?
Do you have hybrids like that down there?

The coyote ID expertise by some on here is a hoot.
That AIN'T a domestic dog.
As a matter of fact, that particular color "phase" is not unheard of here in the deep South. I realize that's in Ohio, but they're out there.

Do you have hybrids like that down there? SE and no we don't that I am aware of. We have some weird colors, but I have only seen those in pictures, in traps from the SE part of the country.

Seriously, this is the best picture he posted. I don't see how anyone cannot see coyote in that critter... ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-16258-247352-screenshot_2025_02_08_3.58.57_pm.png) I'm curious what the temperament of that crossbreed would have been if you got it straight out of the den, before its eyes opened. My full coyote had to many issues. I had another for 15 1/2 years, I think was a half breed, who was excellent. Keith

This coyote looks very much like the road kill coyote I saw on 35. Since they were close, I strongly suspect they are related. About how many mikes were you from where I saw them? ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-58391-247366-1000002308.jpg) The live one I saw was even brighter. I thought it was an odd colored Irish Setter until I got close enough to see it was a coyote. Keith
