There is a new scouting oganization that's been around for about 10 years that still holds to traditional values; "Trail Life", it is apparentlty growing quite a bit in popularity. Oops, just noticed that if's already been mentioned.

Trail Life does not require any religious affermation by the kids, however, any adult leaders must agree to a fairly orthodox statement of faith. The statement would be acceptable to most non-woke protestants, Catholics, SDA, and other trinitarian faiths.

As was already said a bunch of what we did would be frowned upon by authorities. Camping in -0 weather for examples. No cabins, no tent heaters. Mile swim across across a reservoir. 50 mile canoe trip/campout. Building towers by lashing together poles. Survival hike that lasted 3 days where we brought no food. Shooting firearms and bows. (lots of gun safety training) A few years ago a guy I know, father of a scout, had to sign a permission slip so his son could carry a pocket knife. I doubt most parents would be okay with the stuff we did.
Early on when I was 11-12 along with first aid I had to start a fire with a maximum of two matches. How many moms today want 12 year olds to learn how to start a fire?

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I was not in Scouts, 4H instead. But my kid was. First campout we went on, we had to take a class to get permission to carry a pocket knife. Was sitting in class when somebody came around to ask who knew how to run a chainsaw? Needed to cut up firewood for evening ceremony. So I left class to run a chainsaw for an hour or so..........just couldn't carry a pocket knife while doing it.
BTW, the BSA pocket knives by Imperial were actually a pretty good knife to carry around......once you got permission.
Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

I went Tiger to Eagle my dad also Eagle my brother also Eagle
we had sisters and wives that did stuff , when I was in they were just making roles for mothers and wives and we just set up some family tents for leaders who brought their wives and daughters on trips.
It really divides up a family if you say only the boys and men can attend
we are capable of behaving around women and girls , so I am not actually upset about allowing Women and Girls , I think the gross miss management of funds , lands and of legal issues was the much larger issue
the summer camp of my youth was sold as part of that miss management of funds , over a square mile with 2 private lakes and river access , now it is lake homes , great just what northern WI needed a few more FIB lake homes.
my own son left scouts shortly after I stopped being a leader , my wife pointed out I could do 4H shooting sports or I could do Scouts but I hadn't the time to do both. she was of course right there are only 52 weeks in a year , figure around 10 are some sort of holiday , that leaves 42 and I was committed to a 4-H or scout event around 20 of them a year I wasn't doing anything else hardly.
so I left scouts and went that much harder on 4-H shooting sports but was down to around 10-12 weekends a year in all day time commitments.
scouts had made the decision much easier they had just gutted their shooting sports program and in 4-H I had a few restrictions like no shooting human like targets but we could shoot all the turkey and deer and bird , wood chuck , coyote and raccoon targets we wanted.
I could teach anything safe from shotgun , pistol , rifle , muzzle loader ,air pistol , air rifle , and archery.
scouts was anti pistol unless you were in police explorers.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

A young shooting student of mine is an Eagle Scout. Terrific, tough young lady. Were I lost or in any sort of bad way in the remorse, I have no doubt she would do a good job with the situation and know how to get out for help. Hopefully she will be this year’s recipient of a Montana mule deer hunt with me.

I was respectively asked to leave cause we couldn't afford shiny black dress shoes. Apparently gray hushpuppies were not uniform approved in 1960's something...wasn't impressed with them anyway.... Must have been a pretty uptight scoutmaster. My mom couldn't afford the uniform pants, just the shirt, hat,and neckerchief. My brother and I wore jeans and nobody cared. I didn't even know there were uniform shoes.
Eh...wot?
