Scouts were awesome for me. Mom was a den mother in cub scouts and my good friends x marine dad was the scout master in boys scouts. we camped once a month every month regardless of weather then a week of summer camp in the summer The scout master makes the troop.. My friends family moved and the guy that took over was a soft man camped in his camper weak feminine son. That's when I quit scouts. I wish I had finished my environmental science report and did my service project to get my eagle but I was young and the direction the troop went disgusted me. And I had deer to kill and girls to chase I thought was more important.

I heard Savell and Leftlane were kicked out of cubscouts for eating brownies.

they were den mothers if women here in the mid to late 80s an 80% of the cubscout leaders were women. They typically had more time then the men busy working. Never saw a female scout master back then though.

I went through the whole thing, tiger cub to eagle scout. I went to Philmont Scout Ranch. I still have all my scout badges, books, shirts, etc. I won't put my boys in it though.

We had den mothers when I was in cubscouts back from 1976 until 1980. It would of been much better if dads were involved instead of just moms. The meetings were held at 2:30pm, on weekdays, when all our dads were at work still. We mostly did just arts and crafts and ran around through beagle crap, in the den mother's backyard, while the moms hung out, totally out of sight and socialized. We would get a craft assignment, like cutting up Christmas cards and then be left on our own in the basement. We only camped out overnight once in 5 years. It was lame.

Looking back on it now, the den mother and the other mom's who attended, were likely day drinking, because they definitely acted drunk. My mom didn't like hanging out with them and that was likely why.

Our pack had a den mother. Most meetings were in the finished basement of her home. it was a good time, a good experience.

Back in the mid-late 60's I was in Cub Scouts, but dropped out when graduated to Webelos. By that age I think I was doing things more challenging on my own than most Eagles ard doing today.
