Ok so the next big thing is stop making pennies.. No big deal as far as I'm concerned been talk of it for years. My question is if they stop making them. Does that also mean circulation stops? Or is it phased out? Would there be any chance a guy could scrap old copper pennies for more than face value? Especially if metals go up? It's not like I have a ton of the copper ones. I have tried though to save most of the copper one I find with my detector. I wouldn't mind just selling them all over the scale. Be done with them.

pennies are to pay sales tax. I am for keeping them. Gas prices would change by the dime instead 0f a cent. good by $9.99 welcome $10.00

I believe it is against the law to deface money. Scrapping would likely be considered defacing.

My concern is that eliminating the penny will inflate the prices of stuff. I’m sure a merchant isn’t about to round down. It would have the most impact on low cost stuff. Like stuff that cost $1.01 would become $1.05. Almost a 4% increase.

Well at least one could melt them down and make jewelry, bullets or fishing weights, etc. I'm not sure what a guy could make out of a melted down bitcoin, should someone decide they are no longer valid, lol.

Things here are still priced in pennies,
If you pay with debit card you pay actual price. If you pay cash it is rounded up or down.If it is 1 or 2 cents it is rounded down,if its 3 or 4 cents its rounded up.
When I pay cash at the gas pump I always make it stop 2 cents over, lol.

Prices won't change. The only difference is that you may not get "all" of your change back if you pay in cash. Many countries don't have the smallest denominations. You can pay exact prices with electronic payment. How long has gas prices included nine tenths of a cent?

According to the search engines, it could take thirty years after they stop making them before pennies disappear from circulation.

Relying on AI for your own opinion is ridiculous. You really might want to recalibrate.

Wouldn't think circulation would stop, just no more new ones. Would probably take a decade to go through what's currently in circulation. Maybe instead of coin exchange machines gives you a bonus penny when you turn coins in if you turn in enough instead of charging a fee.

What really needs to go is the extra .009 on gas prices. Either round that up or round it down. Don't care which way.

Getting kind of off from the disappearing pennies but rounding up has been worked in for a while now. Some electric coops round up. If your bill is $99.01 its rounded up to $100.00 and you just donated 99 cents to a program that pays other peoples bill that can't or won't pay.

Drop a post 1982 cent on the ground and well within a year it will look like a mouse chewed on it. Zinc rots in the soil. A pre '82 cent, 100 years old can be put back into circulation. New cents are worthless. I've been separating copper and zinc cents for years. I say get rid of them, and I've been a coin collector since I was a kid.
