Does anyone here just have a shallow well for use and not a deep well? Not used for drinking water but for all other uses from the shallow well.

I've got a couple I water livestock with. I use cast iron pump jacks to pump the water.

^ I got a couple also but not for home use. I know a few people that just use shallow well water for main water supply for home. I don't think they drink it but not positive about that either. That would be a no, no in my books.

I never have had mine tested but the watah that comes out of them is crystal clear and cold.

I've never tested mine and I drink from it once in awhile, my dog chickens and cow/calves drink from it doesn't seem to bother them even over several years. Tap water are filled with chemicals so I say pick your poison. I filter my drinking water at the house..

We have one at the cabin. We have no power there and it is the only source of water there other than lake water. Probably not advised but I drink from it regularly and I'm still kicking.

Mine is around 25 feet. I've been drinking from it for decades. My neighbor had his tested (same depth) and the results were very good. There a springs and Artesian wells all over the place. You dig 5 feet and it's all limestone.

I would have it tested if I used it for drinking it. The people I know maybe have I do know one that has not. He's pushing 70 and has been drinking his life.

I got one about a quarter mile from the Yellowstone River it is a good one. I might get it tested sometime.

My Grandparents well was just a sand point they pounded down in 1952. It was 12 feet deep and by far the best tasting water I ever had. Mine is 132 feet and is ok. I would have no problem drinking from most any sandpoint well in this part of the country. I would suspect much of Montana is the same way.

I have nothing clever to put here.

My well at camp is 18’ deep, hand dug in 1888 by my Great Great Grandfather. Stone lined, it maintains a constant 8 foot pool. Good water. I don’t use it for water, but I store my potatoes and dahlia bulbs in sacks in it, hang them a foot over the water. Never freezes, keeps stuff cool . Potatoes won’t have a sprout on them when I pull a sack out in June.

Had one for yard irrigation. Had to treat the water for iron. Would stain anything it hit.

If homes in your area use septic tanks, could this impact your water quality?

I had a shallow sand point well at my first house. Around 15’ or so. Always assumed it was deeper, then pulled it to change standpoint one day. I was surprised to see how shallow it was.

We have a deep well now. Tested a few times after floods and all was good, they just check for bacteria type contaminants. Thinking about having one of the more comprehensive tests done for chemicals, metals etc. There are some on line companies that do it.

I would have thought more testing would have been done from shallow well owners. I can leave well water stand in a white bucket for weeks and see no residue of iron in water.
