I agree, poor decision indeed.

We have nothing to back up the money they are currently printing now. Without knowing more details, this sounds like an idea that I wouldn't agree with.

Think of this as a personal finance situation, you have $100,000 in debt that you pay 4% interest on. You also have $33,333 in Gold sitting in your vault at home not making interest, not really doing anything, just sitting. Do you sell the Gold to pay down the debt or do you just sit on the Gold and continue to pay interest?

They are saying that our gold reserve is valued at $22.00 a ounce that is value that it was many years ago and since it’s up to almost $300.00 a ounce now they could sell and put all that cash back into the government account but I don’t think that is good for anybody as stated in previous post by ctraps we can’t back our printing now so why not just revalue our gold stash no reason to sell it off heck we all now how to revalue our possessions why can’t they

That's just it. No one knows what is actually going on. You know whoever is reporting it is almost guaranteed to be slanting it to make Trump look bad. So it's really just dumb to bother arguing about it, but there will be a bunch on here that will happily pile on. LOL

Whenever politicians raise money through taxes, fees, or selling government property it is ALWAYS couched as a way to reduce debt. Then those same politicians spend $1.50 for every dollar they raise. The only way to stop politicians from spending is to starve them of money to spend.

It may be easier to get money taken out of the system than first thought. It cost more to make pennies and nickels than they are worth. It cost maybe 5 cents to make a dollar bill, thats as much or more than the interest is on it. Someone will say it will be so much cheaper just to switch to crypto and the expense will be next to nothing compared to making money. And once everybody gets on electronic money you won't even have to keep records for taxes, they will already have it for you and you won't need to send it in, they will just take it out of your account.

Did I miss something here?

As much as crypto moves around I'm not interested in even dealing with it, would be years before it's stable, seems like messing around with AI and no one is to positive about that being out there for everyone to mess with !!

Moving gold with out advancing or bringing it's value to par with our debt, seems a risky move for those selling it, not for those buying it !

To much nay saying and doubt about anything Trump is doing right now to get involved in a debate that has no real merit other than a media blitz !!

Thanks. I think it is misleading to say that Trump wants to sell gold. Maybe he does but I think Congress would have plenty to say about that. We'll see

I did exactly that and didn't find any article that provides a direct quote he wants to sell gold as you put it.

A link to your article would be helpful

I'm not in favor of the US selling any of it's gold reserve.

The closest thing I see on Trump and Gold Reservers on a news search is that he wants to monetize the current gold reserves which would bring down the debt to asset ratio. https://fortune.com/2025/02/11/adju...rves-add-750-billion-treasury-overnight/

Im sure Trump would love to restore the gold standard but I dont think there is a practical way to do so even if congress passes a law to do so.

You logically pay the debt with the gold.

I would not bet on the gold still even being in fort knocks

and why pay it back when you can just devalue your currency and pay it back with deflated $.

Ever wonder why the fed wants 2% inflation not 0.

Gold is almost $3000.00 an ounce now, not $300.00.
