It would be a chore, but I bet you can clean and paint the underside of your vehicle with some farm equipment paint and it would help. Don't know if y'all do that or not. I've seen whole undercarriages sprayed with bedliner down here before. We don't salt our roads but the clay mud is corrosive on metal. Might hold up better than oil.

They started using salt out here five or six years ago. It's ridiculous and ought to be outlawed. I figure the new car dealers have lobbyists pushing for the use of salt and mag chloride.

Wow!
I see MN vehicles through here that have a lot of rust. They must salt pretty heavy there too. It seems large, populated states do more of it.

Lots of that here also. Pull into Wind Cave park with a vehicle like that and the buffalo surround you and give it a tongue bath.

They switched to brine around here. That crap doesn't work near as good as the old rock salt. And it doesn't wash off vehicles either. Trucks are rusting away in 6-8 years now.

Vehicles used on the Atlantic and gulf beaches commonly get a good underbelly rinse / dry then a spray coat of boiled linseed oil every year.
Oil works too, but have to watch out getting caught in many areas.

The state used to mix beet juice with the salt I don't know if they do that anymore or not.

They put it down days ahead of the precip event ..... as long as its cold enough to not be rain.
