Shale fracking action (so I can cut down my overhead search areas)?
I may want to make some space camera eye candy for Prez Donald and my other new bosses showing the action.
I think the contrast between forest cover and new roads/trails and the fracking pads would show much nicer than trying to show similar change in west Texas and southeast New Mexico. Space camera no like as much sparse vegetated areas against new gravel/'dirt trails and road and the fracking pads. Too many false positives of something changed more than seasonal or drought driven veg change.
Just curious. .

The counties of north-central Pa, Potter county in particular have a lot of fracking activity. McKean and Tioga counties as well.

Thanks gentlemen!! I sort of wondered if it wasn't in the "ecoregion" called the "North West Appalachians" (see #62 in the 2003 "Omernik" ecoregion map of the CONUS below). https://imgur.com/84-distinct-ecore...es-u-s-epa-2003-1870-2472-pixels-85D0MrVWe might have to cut out a block of the core counties of ecoregion 62 and make a 40 year (well almost 40 years) annual land cover map animation and see what we can see. If it ends up being a public facing brief land change story website, I'll share it here. I never made it to that region when we were doing field work across the country 15-20 years ago but maybe some of the cherry wood lumber used to do the cabinetry in this house was grown and cut there

My stomping grounds is about eleven-thousand acres bordering my camp in northwestern Potter County near the NY State line. According to the map in your link it looks to be right on the edge of numbers 60 and 62.
About 4,000 acres is private timber company land and the rest is State Game Land. The private area in particular has had drilling operations ongoing for over a century. You can't go too far without spotting an old, abandon well pad. And 2.5" steel gas pipes crisscross the area everywhere. A few still have the old rigs still set up and the old steel tool shed/crew shelters on steel skids they used to tow behind machinery from site to site. It's pretty cool walking up on blasts from the past like that.
Modern drilling reached peak levels about five-ten years ago and has tapered off a lot since.

That's one of my favorite pastimes. I always head up for the first week and the last three or four days of the spring season. There's a decent population in the area too.
