I'm going to tan some coon and possums using the orange bottle stuff. Had real good luck in the past with dried skins then reconstituting them. Can you take freshly fleshed skins and put them straight into the pickle or is it better to dry them then reconstitute them then pickle.

Doesn't the directions on the bottle say to salt the hide and plus let it soak in a salt brine. I don't have one close but if I remember it does call for that. I have done one coon and a badger with the orange bottle. It worked but still not as soft as a person would like.

Youll have better results salting or air drying them first. Since when does the OBC have a pickle step and what does it recommend?

No problem putting fresh well fleshed skins into the pickle.
Just make sure you wash degrease and rinse the skins first
Stretching and drying first however will allow you to grade the skins and decide which ones you want to ship to the auction and which ones are for tanning.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

It works better if you pickle the hide for a few days, rinse and tan. Hides come out like commercial tan.
