So, is there some good trapping country left in the Yukon. That a new guy can establish a line?

Yes there is excellent trapping here. I've owned 4 different lines here ( at different times ). The problem is our government. I believe there is something like 350 trapping concessions in Yukon. Only a small percentage of them are actively trapped. There are dozens of "open" lines that are not assigned to anyone. The First Nations issue is keeping the government from allocating them. I talked to our fur tech about it just the other day and she figures that they will be able to start allocating the open lines in 3-5 years. Government so dont hold your breath. Right now the only way to get a trapline is to buy one. A friend just sold his for 200K. I saw one for sale that is right beside mine the other day for 50k but it is really hard to access and has nothing on it....no cabins trails or anything else. Hasnt been trapped in decades. You also must be a resident to buy a line here. Hope that helps! 51st state .....I'm all in on that! What trapper can spend 200K on a line? Unless it gives them exclusive hunting rights and they use it for everything. Manitoba put a stop to guys trying that.

Those lines that haven't been trapped in years would hold millions of furbearers, right? Certainly work 100K or more! I had a friend that has since passed away but she would take 3weeks off in december and get 200-250 marten just running a couple short lines with her kids. Wolves got their dog one year.

No you dont get hunting rights...Just trapping. Fish & Game have no say, nor do they care what a trapline sells for. All they care about is that the buyer is legally allowed to own a trapline. You have to be a resident and have taken the trapping course. A friend that owned a line near my house just sold his for $350,000

Wow! So this, I’ll call it a registered line with official boundaries, is still owned by the crown? They buyer is paying the old line holder for the trapping rights or is the cash split between the crown and the line holder, depending on how many structures/improvements he has made?

How can $350k ever pencil out as economical? You have to use the new math taught in schools today. Then it is very economical.

Does anyone’s line pencil out? (Besides Boco) Only when numbers are high and conditions good. Not this year.
Who is John Galt?

I am told it's a Socialist thing, as in subsidies that guarantee price levels on fur that make up any shortages experienced by fair market value. So, $350,000 for a line that can provide guaranteed profitability can probably pencil out. Just another example showing Socialism ain't cheap!
Just doing what I want now.
