I've played around a bit trying out different materials. I think next I'll try bear grass (Xerophyllum tenax) next. Lodgepole pine base, beaver tail handles. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248079-3_march_2022_1bx.jpg) Beaver tail base. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248080-13_march_2022_5_xx.jpg) A variety of baskets. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248081-22_mar_2022_3_xx.jpg) Deer antler handle, beaver tail and juniper base. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248083-number_15ax.jpg) Deer antler handle; beaver tail base. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248084-number_18x.jpg)

WOW, WOW! Beautiful work. So, what is the weaving material do you use?

All the baskets thus far are woven with Ponderosa Pine shed needles. I want to try something new soon; probably beargrass leaves?

I want to try something new soon; probably beargrass leaves? Khanty along the Yugan river and Selkups along the Vasyugan river here in West Siberia use debarked, split Siberian pine roots and bird cherry twigs to weave baskets called kornevatik (koren' means root). The Siberian pine, a five-needle pine with a very flat, superficial root system, has very long, nonbranching roots. This craft is almost extinct now, but it's not that difficult once you figure it out. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-50953-248088-1.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-50953-248089-50b76e18b6fc9df3b73d0b89372b062a5645va.jpg) Is there a place I can find the weaving pattern for these? Thanks
