I just learned last night about a new proposed law in Illinois,, if your gun is stolen,, and the police recover it,, you will be fined 500 bucks,, even if the firearm is reported,,, failure to pay the fines will result in revoking your foid card.
This is clearly a violation of the second amendment,, if this passes,, this should go directly to the Supreme Court of the United States,,, none of this state Supreme Court baloney!!
Enough is enough!!
Foid card in Illinois is already found unconstitutional, yet, it’s still being enforced..
I’m not sure how to stop this railroading if it’s already unconstitutional,, yet people are still being prosecuted for it.

Has no one in your poor state not yet stood up to this? Defy them, then any ambulance chasing lawyer, even one’s on here, should be able to remind any court anywhere of the supremacy clause imbedded in the constitution.

Judges have a lot of autonomy. Thats a good thing even though judges occasionally misuse it. I dont want to contemplate what could happen if they could be prosecuted for a ruling. Our court system would be at the mercy of politicians.

appealing court decisions takes a lot of money.

patience grasshopper. things seem to be improving

do I get it back for the 500?

I would pay 500 for my stolen gun back

yes this is very bad and not at all right , but on the flip side , when have they ever actually found a stolen gun.

the system for stolen guns is SO BAD , that if you want to keep it on the list you HAVE to get the agency you reported it too , to re list it every 6 months , and that requires you signing the form again every 6 months

If I didn't know nearly every one in the department on a first name basis , there is no way my gun that was stolen would ever still be on the list.
small town department that actually cares and has a little time every 6 months to get my signature.
in WI we are actually not even required by law to report them.

No one says they need to be prosecuted, but just as misuse of a job may cause a dentist or doctor to lose their license, why can a lawyer draped in a robe be held any less accountable for his misuse of power? The laws pertaining to certain issues have been ruled on time and agin by the USSC. Once a decision is laid down, wouldn’t blatant disregard of it qualify for disbarring said person?

We do try to stand up to things like this however they just do what they want. It goes deeper too- all of the larger towns like Peoria are run by Liberal Democrats who do as they want to. Some of the counties are this way too - all the way down to the blue haired dog catcher. If it's a public office they will try to ruin the conservative running for it before the primary. Most people are super sick of it but when you speak up they gang up on you.

Example; I rent a building from the State if Illinois. The business I own has been in this building since the early 70's - 50 year. I started speaking out against the sheriff and a couple others and all of the sudden the tax assessor sends me a letter saying I have not paid my property tax since 1971. Since he's such a nice guy we will wave my fines and back taxes if I start to pay the property tax - on property that is not mine. I refused and fought it for 3 years until they finally told me over the phone in a very heated conversation that if I did not pay the property tax of $5000.00 a year they would chain my doors shut and move one of my competitors into the building to run it the way they want it ran. So after contacting several lawyers and not one would represent me I caved in. I have also been threatened with having my house burned, business burned and being ran out of town. That's a different story but the reason why I am armed day and night. The people are good hear- the politicians are evil and it's all over. So I can stand up all I want but it's not just me I have to protect it's my wife and kids too. I think it's going to take pitchforks and peasants with torches. Which is fine by me but the lone ranger can't do it all.

Just passin through

So what crime does this help to solve? What is the intended purpose of this legislation? The victims of theft are being treated as offenders the way that I read it. It makes absolutely no sense. The only thing that comes from this is an avenue in which the government can eventually seize all your firearms. That's no surprise that they'd like to seize all firearms, it's just very strange the way they are going about it.

Problem is just like Minnesota the state is all red except the few populated counties our sheriffs don’t enforce the gun bs other than the FOID which they all say is unconstitutional

IL just declared the foid card unconstitutional. And the assault weapons ban, so those are steps in the right direction. Slowly but surely. Not out of the water yet, but definitely a good start.

AK has the answer. Or, me originally being from NYS, I've commented many times that we just need to have a few more Jimmy Hoffa moments. Repeatedly.

Well we do have some stupid stated. But at least we don't lt need permits for air guns even in those states.

In mine I don't need a permit to conceal Carry a handgun or buy one. Zero restrictions on semiauto handguns and rifles with 16" barrrels or longer Can own full auto, suppressors, with federal approval and tax.

So yes depending on where you live makes a difference but still light years ahead of Canada
