I use banana and bergamot for skunk lure. What other item would you suggest? I want to stay species specific for adc work. Does someone have an opinion?

Skunks are attracted to many different smells so species specific is difficult. Better off setting on sign.

That doesn't stop bycatch. Dont want to catch the customers pets.

Dogs seem to investigate anything new in their world. What kind of traps are you using? Most ADC work in normal cases, cage or plasticatch traps are used to assure no harm to domestic pets or kids.

depending on your lure selection to keep the customer's pets out of ur traps seems a bit risky too me. As EJ pointed out I think the kind of traps you use and the type of sets you use are of greater importance here.

I like 155s in box about 6 inches back in the box. Been working great until somebody lost a cat. The dogs are more of a nuisance trying to roll the boxes so I stake them. The skunks don't spray much this way. People like when they dont spray. Including me.

But the coons plugged up the traps. I started in traping in 74 and adc work in 84 . But figured by now somebody would have found a more effective draw.

I’m limited in my skunk experience but I used a cheap 5x5 cage trap covered with black plastic and baited with cat food and there was a lot of cats around but they would have to belly crawl in the trap which they never did but the big skunk went right in. Caught multiple this way and there was no spray

No way would I set bodygrips if there was even a remote chance of a domestic critter being caught. The customers or a neighbors. Get yourself some covered cage traps or better yet a plasticatch trap and rest easy at night. Ive been using the plasticatch type traps for over 30 years now on nuisance skunks and have had zero issues. Zero!!!!!!

Have to agree wholeheartedly with EJ on the Plasticatch traps. I started using them in the 90s doing skunk and raccoon work in a large community. I only ever had one skunk out a few hundred spray in one and that was because I hit a bad pot hole on my way to the dispatch spot. Murphy is on duty 24/7 and he is sure to show up if a body grip is set where a domestic critter can get into it. Back then peanut butter was my bait of choice. Cats don't seem to like it.

Funny you mention peanut butter, I loaned a cage trap to a friend years ago to catch a couple coons that were eating his cat food. I recommended peanut butter to him in an attempt to avoid catching his cats. He reported back that he had to switch to cat food, his cats kept wanting to try the peanut butter because it was something new and different, whereas they had cat food in their bowl just a few feet away, so they didn't bother the cat food in the trap, He did catch his coons, but using cat food to avoid his cats is not something I would have thought of.

Interesting. I only ever had one cat go for peanut butter. A big old feral, or semi feral tom in a DP coon trap. That was a rodeo getting him out. Had it not been so close to several homes, his future wold have been reduced considerably. He pretty well shredded the liner of my old trapping jacket while I released him. And it was one of the old style, rectangular box DPs. Required a special setting tool and about four hands to set it. They had a forked trigger inside and I would use a little sack of old panty hose filled with peanut putter and impaled on the trigger. Worked great for coon. And one cat. Never had a cat go in a Plasticatch baited with peanut butter.

ive had cats try peanut butter too like in a curious way, same for marshmellows and dogfood
