For those of you selling or buying whole, half, or quarter at a time...What are you charging/being charged by the pound? Processing not included. Also hanging weight.

It is going to get nuts. I saw today a 345 pound calf sold for $1725 at a sale ring in SD. That is a long ways from butcher weight. Added dollars mean added price.

We buy by the usda 5 area price . 80% choice: live FOB + $8/100 for our local/premium/ all natural market.
2.0725/lb live this week. A couple weeks ago was 2.12.
I’m afraid it’s not going to get any better anytime soon

Processing is somewhere in the $800 range for 1500 lb steers

I was amazed by how high dairy calves, that I can remember being free to $15.00 each, are going for now. Many were going for over $400.00 on the bottle.

With zero predator control out west i imagine beef price's will triple in the next year or so if you can even find any to buy!

The price on the CME has gone down especially for fats, some are thinking this maybe the start of a major correction.

I missed this tread but posted live market prices for last week on beef. Pretty substantial highs and with lower cost feed also.

Same with elk hunting. You can buy a lot of beef for what it costs to shoot an elk when you're a non-resident. But, it's the thrill of the hunt that matters, I guess.

Not sure where you're at in our great state, but Ebels General Store in Falmouth has some of the best prices. Real good meat too.

$1.89 for pork (if you buy an whole hog) - This includes processing. Smoked stuff is extra

$3.99 for beef - including processing

Cool country supermarket with clothing and stuff downstairs. Also a huge hardware store with guns.

We have a short supply but it is demand that will determine how high and how long prices may be where they are at. We import a lot of feeder cattle from Canada and Mexico. Mexico alone provides over 100k of feeders per month. Tariffs will probably be very specific and not over all items. Just like they were for China, the tafiffs are on Ag equipment but not commodities.

We have larger herds that have contracts for day old wet calves up to 1K Holstein cull cows that are in good conditon are over 125 per CWT live weight. Lot of cull Holstein cows weigh from 1300-to 1800 lbs.
Helps with higher input costs and milk prices at current levels. Smallest heifer replacement herd in history and expansion is not easy now, so buying out other dairies is the common way to grow in our area.

I talked to a producer that was a sale in Lexington Nebraska. He saw 800 pound calves sell for $2200 a piece.
I love beef. I can eat bacon, sausage, ham and pork steak but have a hard time swallowing the rest of a hog.
NE has a Hunters Helping the Hungry program. Free meat to poor people except they get EBT cards and get beef at the store. Nobody wants deer meat so I get it for free. Its there for anybody who wants it. I don't go ask for it but go thru a couple other people who arent too proud to ask for it.

My oldest Son had his kids in 4-H and had butcher hogs for the fair every year. Always got extra pigs as some just turn out bettere than others. Two years ago he got tired of the kids not taking care of their pigs so he loaded up 6 hogs and had them all butchered and made into 100% sausage. His wife is a great cook and uses sausage for everything instead of hamburger. Now they're giving away sausage and will probably never eat sausage again.

Yeah Gary I grew up eating sausage we raised beef but ate very little as hogs were cheap and we made more on cattle, but I still love sausage, heck I’m even looking at buying some gilts to get back into the business.

The ones you don't brag about are the bargains, the rest cost more.

I sell my steers by the side. $1,300 per side and they pay processing. These are sold to city folks who just want to know the price and not worry about paying by the pound on hanging weight. Was much easier to just charge a flat fee then to explain hanging weight. I take 10 in a year, keep half for myself and the rest are sold. It’s luck of the draw who gets a heavier one over the lighter ones. Usually not more than 100 pounds difference between the 10. I always take a half of the lightest one. From my hanging weight it would have come out at $3.72 a pound.

The price of beef stays between $4 to $6 per pound while pork costs from $3 to $5 per pound according to local seller pricing. Checking with local sellers remains essential when determining current rates since rates can differ according to area and product availability.

We sell beef by the whole, half, or quarter... I should say my wife sells it. I just raise them.
We charge $4.40 per hanging weigh for a whole, $4.90 per hanging weight for a half or quarter. Plus $190 kill fee (for whole), plus the buyer pays $1.10 ~ $1.15 per hanging weigh for cut and wrap (depending on which butcher they choose). The buyer end up paying roughly $4,000 for a whole, $2,200 for half, $1,200 for a quarter.

When live calf prices were in the tank it was a really good deal for us. Now that live calf prices are up it's not such a good deal for us, but we still do make a little money on feeding the calves through the feed lot. Our prices might seem high, but I would hate to calculate what we make per hour on the feed lot/meat program... I know it aint much. We grain finish them for a minimum of 100 days, getting them up to 17~18 pounds per day at the end, so the quality of the product has always been top notch…

Me too. I've never sent a deer to be processed.
