This enormous 4-meter (13-foot) sturgeon was seen in the Kennebec River, Maine, a reminder of the incredible giants that still roam our waters. Sturgeons, often called "living fossils," have existed for over 200 million years. The largest ever recorded was a Beluga sturgeon caught in the Volga estuary in 1827, measuring 7.2 meters (24 feet) and weighing over 1.5 tons (3,463 lbs). With their armored bodies and ancient lineage, these fish are a true testament to nature’s resilience.

I'm assuming that is an Atlantic sturgeon, correct?

I guess down around Saco people will hook into them fishing for stripers. Cut your line illegal to remove them from the water.

Can you imagine hooking into that thing? It would be one heck of a battle.

It could probably spool you with ease.

I confess to using money made from trapping to go fishing and I’ve been on three guided trips for white sturgeon from the Fraser River in BC. The largest we’ve landed was 108” long estimated at over 500 pounds with its girth. A long drawn out four person switching off battle it is indeed.
