Depending on where it was killed, if it gets tagged, they will normally pull a tooth and find out how old it is.

I seen a collar that looked just like that, that came off a Wyoming elk probably 7-8 years ago. Not sure how long the elk had been wearing it. By the teeth I would say ten plus, females do tend to have more tooth wear than males. Due to raising kittens and eating on kills until they are cleaned up more, thus more chewing on bones, etc.
