No, but similar story to me only seeing Gray Fox in southern AR, for over 50 years, and then catching a Red about 3 years ago.

I have caught everything in NW MO except the supposed gray fox. I guess I could make a set for them them right next to my chupacabra set.

Caught one today here in western Oregon. We started seeing them a few years ago maybe 10-15. Now they seem to be everywhere. Have caught them right off the University campus in residential areas. Todays was on a vineyard I have a couple live traps on.

They are a pretty neat little animal.

Between my son and I we have caught 5 greys in North Central Missouri, Chariton County.
Son caught the last one 3 years ago in the middle of the Chariton River bottom. Literally a mile from the nearest tree. Really weird place for a grey. That #3 was rough on him or he would have turned him loose.
He caught 2 in 2005 when he was 10 years old.
I caught 2 in ‘02 or ‘03. Can’t remember exactly.
Used to occasionally see a road killed grey, but it’s been a good while.

Like many things in the wildlife world, they’re becoming a thing of the past.

Haven't trapped in a year or so been busy, but I was averaging 4 a year. Amazing how same state but habitat is so different

Will also say, imo grays are way prettier then the reds

This was our first, my first red on the left and gray, and my sons red on the right. Just some comparisons we have in our area.. I do have a pair of grays at the farm, I have seen them deer hunting could have shot them but I didn't. Would like to catch them, the ole female has haunted me she is a smart cookie, when it comes to traps... but she roams all through out the day have seen her several times sitting on the porch, riding horses and walking the woods.

Caught 3 off Whiteman AFB between 05-11 Johnson Co and another one SE of the base on Muddy Creek in Pettis County around 2010. Saw one run up my neighbors gravel road last spring-Pettis Co.
Never caught a red fox and gray fox in the same area within the same year.

A few grays down here south of Springfield. Mostly reds though. I guess you're KC area.

I knew guys in the Ozarks that would catch a hundred greys a season in the ‘80’s and early’90’s.
They tell me there’s still some greys down there, but not nearly the numbers there were back then.

There’s never been great numbers of greys in North Missouri.

Been over 40 years since I've caught one in Saline county. Use to catch 3 or 4 every year around the Marshall Junction area.

We are 20 miles from Iowa. One of my goals was to catch every species in MO. Can't catch what isn't even remotely there though.
