It has been below 0 ever night or day. It was 20 below this morning and they are saying -8 for a high. Three nights between -30 and -33, starting tonight. Then a warm up. I always show 5-8 degrees colder then what they do. I am 25 miles from town. I am ready for a warm up.

We have enough ice I don't want to cut a spearing hole. If you go to the lake fishing you better take an auger extension or a chisel or both.

Our Pa one week otter season started yesterday. All lakes and standing water is froze up thick, and what water was open, is now at flood stage, from heavy rain and melting snow. Been a terrible winter to trap beaver here.

I have chopped through over three foot of ice to set beaver traps. I know what terrible beaver conditions are.

And I thought a foot and a half was annoying. Good lord.

It all depends on how bad you want the beaver. I used to get a week off between Christmas and New years sometimes. I would go set beaver traps in areas I never scouted. You learn to read sign when most of it is covered up. Open water beaver are much easier.

How much snow to the ice?

Depends where you’re at in the state, average I’d say 3 to 5 inches.

I have a foot at the house. But I don't live on the lake. The wind takes most the snow off the ice here.

08:30 PM more or less, we lost power tonight. I started the fish house heater and stoked the wood stove. The power came back on at 09:45 PM I had not lost much heat in the house. It was -28 when it came back on.
