My buyer of the last 7-8 years is not interested in my red fox this year.

As I see it my two best options to sell are Groeny or FHA.

Where do you guys think I'll make the better average?

Also, what section do my southeastern Pennsylvania red fox get put into by FHA, Central or Eastern?

Thanks,

Lugnut

Tough choice. With GFW it is cash in hand. With FH it is a gamble, never know how they will grade and who wants red fox.

Not sure how great a red fox market groney has, i know years ago they didn't have diddly for a cat market. Id probably send half to FH and sell the other half to groney and see how it goes for future fox im selling. Coin toss either way you go.

I can see Groeny at Dave Rodgers (Rodgers Hides and Supplies) on March 29. That's about the same time I'd drop of at my local FHA agent to be shipped for the June sale.

I'm okay with the waiting for a check, I'd just like to get the better average.

That's not a bad idea.

I did the Groeny thing two years ago. Was less than satisfied. But half my beaver and all my rats are still sitting unsold from last season at FHA. So there’s that.

Have you considered Idahos sale. The reds have done very well there.
Not sure about the eastern. I'm sure Rusty could fill you in.

If you don’t need cash in hand right away, I think it’s an easy answer.
Or the other guys like was just mentioned.

The one District sale over there trumps the others.
11 maybe?
I've seen reds from there grade flat. ONCE.
I'd ship from my experience.

Red fox I’d probably ship. Groenwold I’d guess you average seven dollars or so. FHA maybe no better but I’d guess better chance of upside. Always sucks to sell such a beautiful fur for so little either way.

The Idaho sale is an option. Coming up March 7-9. Still time to ship. It does draw a fair number of “craft buyers”. Your eastern reds are different in color and fur heaviness than our western red fox, which might be a good selling point.

There is one down side to the Idaho sale. Reserve price/limits/minimums what ever you want to call them are not allowed on shipped fur. You get what ever the high bid is. Sort of like FH - you have no control over the price. Having said that, idaho is a sealed bid sale (not an open auction), so none of the buyers know what the other buyers are bidding. Which works to your advantage. I’m not sure how many buyers idaho will have at their sale but I would think at least a dozen. Probably more.

Not sure how many fox you have but if it is a large quantity, say 40 or 50, you will want to split them up into smaller lots. Say 8-10 skins per lot. That way more buyers can bid on them. If you put them all in one lot, you will limit who can bid on them.. craft buyers have limited budgets. They won’t even look at a group of 50 skins as it is too much money.

Rusty (fur sale manager) is a member here. Idahotrapguy. Maybe send him a PM and see what he says.

I had 4 Minnesota mid-November reds that were sold a couple weeks ago to a local buyer. Three went for $20. One at $15. All were finished. I discovered washing hides made a huge difference. They fluffed up nicely and the buyer appreciated that.

Yeah, District 11, that's my PTA District. the averages there haven't been great, $5.00 two years ago and $11.53 this year. Besides, the sale is too early for me, I'm still trapping when it's held.

Eh...wot?

I maybe should have said frosty rather than flat.

One time a guy brought a large lot of those to our sale.
Got everyones interest, no-one knew him.
His fox were way different. He did not sell.
I helped him carry them out. He had Maryland plates.

I hear deer hides are decent again.
