Didn't want to hijack leveractions thread
I'm in the market for a 22-250 bolt for coyotes or any other varmits. Looking for options for the best bang for the buck. Been thinking about getting a salvage as they seem to be a good working gun that shoot accurately out of the box but I'm not married to that. Don't want to break the bank but don't want a POS either. So what's the best bang for the buck in your opinion.

Tikka makes a fine rifle.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have a Tikka 270 W.S.M. I would buy another Tikka in a second. I am looking at a 223.

I have two Ruger 22-250's , one a regular barrel and one a heavy barrel both bolt actions and tack drivers, I reload my own ammo, can't count how many dogs I've taken with both of them,,, that being said

Several years ago I won a raffle at the New Your Trappers convention, and it was for a Ruger 204, I promptly got a nice scope for it tuned it up with some factory rounds as thats what was available at the time, and ever looked back on my 22-250's again

The difference in keeping on sight after recoil was immense the loss of recoil was immense, the hitting and knock down was tremendous even out past 400 yards, love this caliber for dog hunting, only one thing would improve it for me and I'm set up with that now !

An AR 204 with 22 inch fluted barrel, Pulsar Duo 60 thermal scope ten round clip and the ability to knock dogs down clear out past 300 yards at night with out worry about not keeping on others around, compared to my old Russian IR scope I used for years, and still hunt with the AR during the day light due to being a duo purpose scope , can't beat it !

So my best for 18 years was the Ruger 22-250, so be happy with it in most brands, but once you want to go to thermal 204 is what I recommend !

I bought a 22-250 years ago, Remington 700 bdl. Walmart was clearing out firearms in Oregon, had them for $200.00, thru a nice Luepold scope on it built up a load it likes with varget and 55 gr nosler ballistic tips. Thing is a tack driver.

If Ruger would come out with a Gen2 model I’d get one. Right now I don’t think they have one and don’t see one in the future. They decided to go with the 22ARC instead.
Think you can get the Gen1 still though.

So for all the guys saying Tikka. What model are you shooting? 1:14 twist? What load have you been using? I guess this should apply to all of the different manufacturers.

Savage 110 model. I had a buddy who is a gun smith work the trigger over to lighten the pull. If I do my part she will drop a dog at 250 yds or better.

My Tikkas are all super shooters.
In some places great sales right now on T3’s I’m told they are clearing out the non threaded barrel models. All the new ones are threaded. I’ve had three of mine threaded, no biggy I dont quite understand the fuss but so be it.

walking in or 50 feet from truck ?

I would have said Ruger American gen2 but they don't offer the 22-250 in that yet , maybe an AI ,ag conflict . unsure why

there seem to be a few brands that don't offer what you would consider a light or even normal weight 22-250 especially bad if you want a threaded muzzle.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Mostly will be walking in so weight is a factor. I was noticing that a lot of them do seem heavy.

grin If you can't carry 6.6 lbs of rifle how you gonna carry out all them coyotes?

Reminds me of people worrying about the weight of beaver traps.

Just razzing you MNJag. lol

That's a light one! I hear what your saying and always thought the same with beaver traps. I'm going to have to hit up the sport shop and get my hands on a few. Maybe it's not as noticeable as I'm thinking.
