when oils separate into two layers (a clear portion on top of an opaque layer); is one or the other better in formulation; or would you remix it back the way it was before separation?

does it matter?

Thanks!

A single specific oil should not separate or it may not have been filtered well in the beginning, the oil was not drawn from the top, the oil extraction process was pre mature / incomplete or the oil is a blend and therefore the blended components are not completely soluble with each other. Take your pick. If you feel it is a good quality product just shake it well and use as is.

Many lures are a mixture of various oils and water soluble materials. Some products built this way without measures taken to keep the ingredients blended, some will separate and stratify once left alone and sitting on a shelf for some time.

Some heat rendered oils / sun rendered oils can have heavier solids from the Mother batch that will sink due to their density compared to the top run oil. Some of the heavier based fatty acids will never rise due to their weight and may require additional processes to extract the remaining oil until you have maximized its oil releasing capacity.

Pure distilled or Oil extracted from a tinctured process should be relatively consistent in color with little or no stratification if the oil is carefully poured or drawn from the top of a product extraction run.
