no on insurance
as an example we can go up to 15hp boats 14 feet and under on the home owners policy they see so little liability with them.
I really hate to see one more mandatory insurance , the insurance companies eat that stuff up when they have you over a barrel.
Legally mandated insurance still seems like a bad idea to me . to the point the cop generally doesn't even ask for registration , just proof of insurance and license any more.
you can drive a 1200 pound horse pulling a buggy with 6 people inside pulling a wagon and not need any insurance
seems there needs to be some way to use a public resource with out paying a private company for the privilege.

Seeing more of them riding the shoulder on the highway. The latest was going fast enough to cause an issue with traffic trying to pass. Can you drive an ATV down the shoulder?

Can you drive an ATV down the shoulder? right down the road on all but numbered state highways we heard how the blood would run in the streets if we allowed it so we set up designated roads first then expanded to township roads and city streets , now it is almost everywhere but the numbered state highways. it varies by county and township but most all of them see the tiny risk and the great economic benefit remember you can drive a 20,000 pound tractor with 6 foot high tires wider than a lane with no license at all pulling a death bomb of 3 ton of anhydrous I can think of one UTV accident in out area in the last year , and I think it was the cars fault.

Unless it’s construction equipment, then it needs to be tagged.

Somehow I don’t mind the folks pedaling but the ones utilizing a motorized vehicle without the same inconveniences the rest of us endure strikes as odd. That is unless we are going to give a pass on all other atvs and contraptions one can come up with.

I would guess if they are the cause of the accident they are liable ! Be beneficial to have insurance in that instance. Beneficial to get financial protection as well as legal representation including establishing the percentage of liability. As mentioned some level of protection might be available under there Renters or Homeowners liability.
Amish freighter could be found liable for an accident. So could the farmer hauling anhydrous ! So could a child on a pedal bike.
But mandatory insurance on E-bikes seems a bit excessive ! Where would it stop ?

We do give a pass to ATV and UTV and tractor and horse and buggy
ATV and UTV only pay the state registration.
nothing to pull up to a rural bar in the summer here and there are 20 UTVs parked outside

We are not so fortunate in that regard. we have only had one so far , a guy operating a UTV who was OWI ,he already had an OWI in a car but since they are operating on a ATV UTV trial it is technically a recreational OWI that doesn't carry quite the severity of a Auto OWI. he would have probably done it in a car just the same WI is a bit weak on OWI , the first one is a misdemeanor

I can think of one UTV accident in out area in the last year , and I think it was the cars fault.
27 of the 40 ATV/UTV fatalities in Wisconsin in 2024 were on a road. I hit a snowmobiler with my truck about 15 years ago. The county sheriff said don't worry about it. Recreational vehicles always have to yield to cars/trucks.
