Great documentary on Amazon. I had no idea what the fishing industry of the Great Lakes went through. Is about the lamprey. Fascinating to a flatlander. Anyone seen it?

I have not seen it. I have had my lines ran by somebody else though. Its a special kind of lazy to steal somebodies fish rather than put out a little effort to catch your own.

I have caught and killed lampreys with my bare hands, them sucker mouthed devils were no joke. Back in the 80's it was common to catch Coho Salmon with hickeys on them, and eels still attached. Don't see many of them anymore, no more Coho either.

The lower Yukon R. natives harvest lampreys thru the ice in Nov. Make long holes in the ice and scoop them out with nets or big forks. Eat them. Maybe dog food. I've had them. Didn't seem too tasty. Tried them for bait. Not much oil in them. Didn't have much smell. I don’t think I could eat one of the nasty looking things.

We have them in the local rivers. Will find them in the bottom of the boat after gigging suckers.

I don’t think I could eat one of the nasty looking things. They were considered a food for the upper class in the Middle Ages. Gloucester has a tradition of presenting a lamprey pie to the British monarch on special occasions.

Worked two seasons on the USFW Sea lamprey control program based out of Marquette, MI. Worked ten days on/ 4 off out of a traveling caravan of trailers to whatever watershed we were treating that cycle. We had to die each watershed with green die to calculate flow rate for treatment, always an attention getter. It was an effective control program until it was found that the lamprey were adapting their spawning from the smaller watersheds that were too numerous to have physical barriers(weirs) on them and started spawning in in the larger rivers and shallows of the lakes themselves and different control methods were being worked on if possible as they amount of larvascide needed just wasn’t feasible. It was interesting work but just too nomadic for me to be a career.
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.
