I shot a buck this year with my 6.5 while he was looking at me and he flopped down immeadiatly but didnt die. I used my knife to finish him but I'm wondering if someone else finishes them different?

My advice is to get rid of the 6.5 Needsmore.

Hunted with a 270 for years. Purchased a 6.5 Creedmoor this year after shooting a friends and feel in love with it. Shot 3 deer myself with it and a friend shot another all dropped in their tracks. All shots ranged from 100 to 400 yards. Shot placement pure and simple. Eric

Na I just find it funny all the 6.5 creed hate. when it's a half a mm diameter typically the same to 20gr difference in Bullet weight at the same speed. More seasonal density ect..

I have a 7mm-08, 260 rem, and 243. had the 260 built for long range shooting several years before the creadmore came out or it would have been the Creedmoor.

I have zero problems with any of them but use the 7mm-08 most. But that's typically becues my .30 suppressor lives on it.

I don’t own a 6.5 NM, so I'm basing my opinion on what I know from a local level. Even here in the deep South, many folks jumped on the 6.5 train a few years back. Every single one (that I know personally) that bought and hunted whitetails with it have a pitiful story to tell and all of em (5 or 6 guys) have since parted ways with the 6.5.

That's enough for me.

And I guess we can add the Op's story to the list. He didn't even want to shoot his deer with the 6.5 a 2nd time...lol

Nothing wrong with a 6.5 anything, it's a 243 on steroids, and that kills everything.... Bad results come from bad shots, or improper bullets, it ain't the gun.

I am old school. 22-250 for coyotes, 270 for deer, 300 wm for elk. They work so no need to replace them. Any of the three would work for any of the three. The job I bought each for they excel at. Have not seen anything yet that would be a big improvement. Some minor ones here and there. Also some less thans. Gun writers gotta eat and gun companies gotta sell. Get close shoot careful is what grampa always said. Still good advice.

I have most of the cartridges mentioned here. The 6.5 CM lacks in the velocity department when it comes to a hunting cartridge in my opinion. I would guess some of the problems with killing animals with the 6.5 cm could be contributed to using bullets that where more designed for targets instead of hunting.
