The season is coming to an end here so I made a cubby at the edge of the water with fresh fish for bait and a piece of aluminum foil hung inside from a piece of fishing line.
Anyone have any experience with visual attractors for otter?

I had a guy trapping by me. He used to wrap tin foil over the pans of his footholds and just leave them in about 3-4 inches of fast moving water. He caught otter when they tried to grab the shiny pan. I guess they think it's a fish. Never tried this idea.

I do know they are attracted to a hole near the waters edge. Basic foothold set in 3 inches of water with a six inch hole about 18 inches above the trap. Slick up the area around the hole. I use this method.

They will hit a big 8 inch lure tied onto the trigger wires of a 330. Or a soft bait like a giant Sassy Shad with the tail that moves. I use this method also.

My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

Similar to your "guy", a coworker has wired rubber frogs to the pans of #3's and #4's and set them on the bottom of creeks and rivers.

I caught my first coon with foil on the pan set in the riffles of a small creek.
I have 2 pocket sets lured with fresh mink glands and fresh creek chubs but mink keep taking the chubs.
Just thought I needed to try something different

I've used salmon size fishing spoons on 330 triggers with success

Well I mean...now I have to try it. Blind sets have always been pretty good to me, but for amusement purposes I guess I'm gonna remove the hooks from a couple spoons now

Down here if you want to hammer an otter or 100 or so of them, spread duck feathers on the bank of a crawfish pond levee. Otters eat a load of ducks and make a living on ones hunters can't find. Put out a fish stick or pocket set, with some duck feathers and fat head will come sliding in like he is stealing home base.

Aluminum wrapped pans are a tried and true method for Coon too.

Good tips.
I’ve learned something already this morning!
Thanks guys!

I’ve been targeting otters this month. Mostly just blind trail setting. I feel like the shad or spoons on the traps work better with a little current flowing . Where I have been trapping there is not much. In my mind the swimming attractors wouldn’t work as well. But the frog and the foil… good ideas I gotta remember next year!
