That's enough for me.

And I guess we can add the Op's story to the list. He didn't even want to shoot his deer with the 6.5 a 2nd time...lol

Funny you don't say a thing about the ammo they were using or shot placement. Just guessing it's 1 of two things probably both. Bad shot placement or using target ammo for that supper bc they need for the sub 300 yard shot likely under 60 .

Your a smart man. it's not the the rifle or caliber causing them issues it's just easier to blame that their themselves.

logic would say if using the same bullet within a 50 fps volatility diffrence between a 243 and 7mm-08 in the Hornady north American whitetail ammo and a 243 drops them and the 7mm-08 drops them for me than the .5 mm different in-between cal will do the same.

So answer me 7mm-08 is good how about 243? they both work well for me.

so what bullet were the people using open tip match? or they just can't shoot.

using slugs the walk is a lot shorter
, if you had to walk 300 yards to them you would probably never have a that situation.

You seen the throat patch on the deers neck ? If ANY deer that is looking at me that's the target. Buck doe don't matter. NTR and they don't move. Hit him there with any legal caliber and end of story.

AS for the creedmore. It was a marketing ponsey at the finest. Will they shoot? Yep no doubt. Will they kill ? sure under great conditions. But question is did they fill a void in the rifle cartridge world? Or just give more options?

Nah, just better shot placement that’s all.

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

I know for a fact that all were shooting factory ammo, but I don't know brand or other ammo details.

These guys all are veteran hunters with a lot of deer kills. A couple of them bought a 6.5 due to the all the whizz surrounding the caliber. A few of the deer were recovered, but the evidence of a hit upon impact was minimal. Read that ...No blood trail...shot thru rib cage.

One incident that I'm most familiar with was a Kansas buck that my cuz killed. Buck was a good'un (150" x 200lbs.). Buck was approximately 130yds...almost broadside. Shot placed right behind shoulder. Buck showed no reaction to being hit other than a step or 2 forward. 2nd shot = Buck took a couple more steps forward looking around. 3rd shot = Buck leaps forward and disappears into tall grass. Cuz is wondering wth! After a few minutes, cuz gets out of blind...walks over and there is no blood found. A few steps into grass and buck is there dead about 50 yds from 1st impact. Can cover all 3 shot entrances with a cigarette pack. Cuz generally shoot Hornady ammo, but I'm not sure on this one.

I did that one time swamp. Using a 6mm reminton. Big boy was breeding a doe . First shot no reaction. second shot doe tried to run out from under him. 3rd shot she kicked him off. was about to put final round in him when he tried to mount her again but fell backwards. Feller died happy !!! Lack of blood trail is why I stopped using my 6mm exclusively. If thick cover it can be hard to find deer. Reason I try for neck or head shot on a doe when I got it.

wow I have never had an issue with a 243. and I know the holes my 260 put in coyotes and other critters half dollar to large orange exits using 6.5 120 gr v max..

But I guess things happen. 7 out of 8 my youngest has shot with his 350 legend and win 150 gr xp hit the dirt or stumbled at most 40 yards nost hit the dirt or 15 yards or less and have had the biggest blood trails I have Seen. But one made it around 100 yards and had a poor blood trail. It was geting dark it was hot early youth seasion and I was in a hurry. woods was wide open so I took off walking and looking in the direction it ran and found it. had it been thick it may not have been recovered with the poor blood trail. Hit was in the vitals .and had that been the first deer he had shot with it it may have been the last. just an example of things happen some times. I was thinking we had bullet fail to open looking at the wound Chanel compared to all the others.

My dad found a dead 14 point buck on the side of a road by our farm 50yds from our trail cam and never got a picture. His back was chewed up but he had an infected wound in his neck where a buck had jabbed him. If he got shot there, he wouldve been dropped if he got shot there. He was a 150-160 something.

In answer to the question, unless you only brought one bullet, use the second.
