It's truly not that hard to do. In today's world you can find out how to do most anything on YouTube. I learned long before YouTube though.
Fire up that cabinet shop and make some sawdust

Remodeled wifes kitchen year ago this month, when I started. Ceiling, all cabinets, floor, and counter tops. It got expensive quick , quartez tops, flooring, back splash, had the ceiling sprayed, cabinets, have young person here who quit school teaching, went into the cabinet/ vantity business. Went to Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, showed wife there stuff , partical board etc, plus not cheap. Had young man come in measure, custom build all cabinrts with oak, all insides marine plywood, cost 2,500 more, but end results worth every penny. What I wasn't ready for was the quartz top, shazm, that stuff costlly. Have to buy full sheets, had 1 pc left over, had cabinet builder make wife, nice 2 drawer cabinet with closing storage below and used that pc., of quartz. Did floors, rented wet saw for back splash, helped hang cabinets. put new micro wave aboe the stove, local appliance dealer installed it. Only had to run short wire and new outlet. Partical board would work for me, but wife needed a kitchen up grade after 30 yrs. took me couple weeks, but the end was great. Best part wife loves her kitchen

I have to chuckle when someone squawks about the cost of something custom made by skilled labor.

Figure out how much materials cost then how many hours it would take you to make that.
How much would want to get paid an hour if you were a cabinet maker?

Now add in all the extra costs that business has to pay, workmans comp, Business ins., health Ins, SS and so on.
Now think about all the equipment that the shop has and had to buy along with consumables like sand paper, finishes, drills, cutters etc.

It all adds up.

If OP think the cabinet shop is making a ton of money on the job he should start his own cabinet shop and start making bank.

Did a complete gut and remodel of our kitchen last summer fall. Had hickory cabinets built by a neighbor's nephew turned out awesome, spray foamed walls, rewired, flooring, all new appliances, drywall, texture, paint, new duct work, and done. Turned out great, sweat equity is worth it.

Yep We had weyerhauser, u s plywood and abitibi in northern mi. not to mention 2 1/2 gaggles of sawmills But if you went to a store or lumberyard it was all Canadian Building codes prohibited using sawmill lumber for residential buildings

They’re pretty easy, I have it really easy now, I have a Cnc cut them out.

I do it for a living. If I priced that work it would be almost double. I don’t think vinke had custom cabinets priced. That looked like a factory cab quote.

Not sure about the size of the island but I guess I don’t charge enough if you would be double learch.

Did our entire kitchen, cupboards, counter top, large island, all for under: #22,000.00. Very happy here's a couple small pics to show the Hickory cabinets.

You paid someone 22,000. Not what materials cost correct?

For 22 grand it better have a motor ....lol

All included. Those just a sample pic of the cupboards we selected. The guy did a bunch of other odds and ends to add to labor costs some. Had one bid from a cabinet guys come in at 37,000.
