Check heartland hatchery. He will be in Emporia and Topeka on March 1st. 10 or more chicks - $5 each. Cash.
We have bought from him several times and have had great luck.
We usually buy red and black sex links and barred rocks - we want egg production.
You will need to call him ahead and order the ones you want.

"Regular" chicks..rhode island reds, sapphire gems..ect....will be between 4.99 and 5.99

Alot of states..including WV, aren't supposed to be selling them right now cause of bird flu...

$1.99 seems cheap, at the moment. You better be there when they unload the truck!

$2.99 for the standard breeds (RIR’s, barred rocks, ect.) at our local feed store. Probably up to seven or eight dollars for some of the fancier breeds.

Those were last spring’s prices, so they may well go up by this spring.

This place isn't shipping yet because of the cold weather but has good prices.

I either hatch mine ,or order through the feed store.

Price of the chick is negligible compared to the price of feed you’ll run through them over the time you’ll have them. No need to get caught up over a buck or two on the chick itself.

We have bought from Mt. Healthy Hatchery. Peeps in the mail. Cornish cross, pheasants, ducks, and turkeys - all were good.

In the grand scheme of life, peeps are quite a bargain. So are eggs really.

I got yelled at here for calling baby animals “babies”…..

Mt. Healthy is wanting $1.50 each for over hatch pullets now. A few years ago I could buy over hatch pullets for 25 cents and cockrels for 5 cents.

Chicks at Tractor supply have been high last couple years

TSC and Rural King both mark the chicks down a whole lot when they get big enough to flap out of the stock tanks. Usually they go for 50 cents to a dollar each.

I picked up 10 Cornish/Rock crosses for free last week, that a guy bought from Rural King for a buck each and grew out for 4 months. Their total weight was 142.29 pounds for an average weight of 14.22 pounds each. The largest cockrells weighed just under 17 pounds.
