Always a joy to catch and put up, bobcats seem to occur 'bout anywhere in North America, except where snow is deep. They're sometimes in pretty low abundance, but it seems there's a few in all types of habitat. It seems to me that the more moisture a place gets, the more red comes out in the pelt. Usually, the silvery ones, thus the best prices, seem to come from dry, desert environs. This fairly pale male tom was snared in fairly dry country. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248978-2009_bcat1_3_xx.jpg) This reddish-colored cat was taken in deep timber from northern Idaho, where rain is pretty common. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248979-3759_xx.jpg) This Tom, with a fairly blah-colored back, was trapped in north Idaho. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248980-3757_xx.jpg) This bobcat was trapped in the deep timber of north Idaho. Notice the red tones. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248981-4104_xx.jpg) This young cat was taken in a drier area than the red ones, and was thus a better marked cat, ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-10376-248982-p8170027_xx.jpg) Jack

As Sharon's second picture indicates, bobcats (and mink) seem to love beaver dams and lodges and make great places for sets.

Mr Gulo, every critter that I trap for likes beaver activity, dams lodges and castor piles. You can set a lot of good sets at the dam cross overs, both ways land to land and water to water. Always a good location.....jk

Nice cats and country. Reminds me of when I trapped Milford Reservoir and Tuttle Creek.
