Is any one else tracking or even interested in the American Birkebeiner Hayward WI? My little brother and his wife have skied it now for I think this is 25th year for them?? I have the tracking app up on my phone. My sister in-law skied the half marathon yesterday. Her arthritis and asthma won't let her do the full marathon anymore.
My brother was for the first time really doubting if he should try the full run. He's only 64 for crying out loud. Im seriously concerned for him this year. He is so bull headed, hope he can make the whole run. I told him go for it just see you don't come home by medflight.
He is only an hour and 24 minutes in right now. Still long way to main street Hayward.

Mac-Did they have enough snow or did they need to import some this year?

I really don't know how that all went for them this year. Right before this last bit of snow my brother said the whole course was covered. But that people would want to use what he called his rock skies. Which would mean his older beat up skies. Not like they are in the truly competitive need to run their best skies. I've heard they make snow at a couple locations. They also stock pile snow from places where they clear parking lots and such. No idea if they had enough locally to even do that.
Only time I actually went and watched them ski past view points. My in-laws still had the cottage at Hayward that's was 20 some year ago. So we just stayed there didn't have to fight for a motel. My brother will have their motel room booked for next year before they leave tomorrow.

Go get after it you'll do fine.
I was actually with my brother the first time he ever ctoss country skied. It was the only time I ever cross country skied. Was one of those park and rec try asking day. Think I even have a old news paper clipping of photo of our group. We did it as a family thing so all had wives with. I had so many things I was doing back then. I just never followed up with more sking. My sister and her husband were the only ones that had skied and had their own skies.
Little brother and his wife bought skies kept right on going.
I just checked he is still moving got one more check point before finish. If he stays on pace should be about 2 1/2 hours out from finish. I do recall that crossing the lake towards the end seems like forever.

Well according to the tracking app little brother crossed the finish line. 6:30:38 of sking start to finish. Neat to be able to follow him like that. In past would have waited for phone call, e-mail or text.
I think it's pretty cool.
