Good afternoon, gentlemen. Time for my 2nd post. I updated y'all in early January about my 2nd-ever coyote catch. Well now I can officially cross "bobcat" of my trapping wish list. While I don't have huge trap lines like most of y'all (still just my 3 Duke 550 traps), I am chalking up my big game trapping season as a win in my book (1 coyote, 1 bobcat).

Just a traditional dirt hole set. Haven't had the most luck with commercial baits for some reason (target animal just walks by according to scat and tracks). I went as natural as possible this time. Just a 4-wheeler wide trail going through a grown-up clearcut. All red clay and rock. I shot a squirrel under my bird feeder and cut him in half. I threw the top half down this dirt hole and offset my trap to the slightly to the right about 9" or so back from the hole. I cut the squirrel tail in half (not connected to any meat so he couldn't grab the trail and run off with the meat easily) and used that as a visual object sticking out of the top of the hole. A little shot of coyote urine on the log backing and I was out of there. No gland lures or long distance call lures or anything. This male bobcat came in at 10:30pm last night. He was not a happy camper this morning when he saw me. He went absolutely ballistic! That was entertaining to say the least. He came in a little over 22 pounds.

I just wanted to share my trapping experiences with y'all... when I have them few and far between, but I am still learning.

The other half of the squirrel is down another dirt hole in the middle of one of our food plots where I found some old coyote scat... so hopefully, I can share a 3rd post with y'all in the near future.

Thanks for reading.

Great catch congrats !!
We can't use game animals for bait, domestic ducks worked well for us last year on bobcats.

Congrats! There's nothing to get the heart pumping like seeing a chat du bois in a trap!
