Dang nothing worse then losing a loyal friend just take comfort in knowing all you did to make his life what it was. This meme is my go to response I still think about my old fat ride or die beagle that took off last year in the extreme heat. Picking up a new puppy this week a in my pocket the new ride or die Queen of the truck. Hoping to train the wife’s dippy doodle while trying the pup. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/02/full-18408-249708-img_2398.jpeg)

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Losing a good dog is so hard. How can an animal have that much hold on a persons emotions. Because a good dog loves you unconditionally, is always loyal and will spend every minute of every day of it's life by your side if it can. And when they can't be with you, they're probably thinking about being with you. You don't usually get that level of unconditional love, loyalty and devotion from another human.
Eh...wot?

This hits close to home. We also have a fox red lab who will be 11 in less than a month. A once red furred face is now replaced with a cloak of ghost white. She is still healthy and losing her will break our hearts but we have been there before with other dogs. Still sucks. Feel your pain and anguish but I am confident another lab will enter your life and new memories will be made. God Bless.

Sorry to hear this. It's hard for non dog people to understand how attached we become. I had to put my five year old Lab down last September (mast cell cancer) we spent money taking her to the vet, to the Veterinary Hospital in Fort Collins, (11) 360 mile round trips, surgery, Chemo, medicine. I just was not ready to give her up to quickly. She was glued to me for five+ years and was my hunting buddy, along with everything. When it came time, the vet (a good friend of 35+ years) came to the house and we did it in her barn. It's hard and I feel for you.

I've shed way more tears over losing dogs than I have over people. I hope there's nothing wrong with that. There isn’t. It’s a different kind of bond. Need not be ashamed of the pain. Pet loss is getting harder and harder because advances have been made in caring for them

My fox red lab of 13 had to be put down. I am devistated to say the least. How can an animal have that much hold on a persons emotions. This boy taught me how to duck hunt. He was by my side constantly and he knew when I was hurting. The smallest things right now , like going to the mailbox which he loved to do for some reason is extremely painful. I gave my boy CPR in my living room on his bed and he came back but he was so messed up that hehadto be euthanized. My wife just gave him a bath in which he understood as his spa treatment before his issue. God I miss him already. Even though this is killing me I feel like I can’t be without a dog in my life. I guess I will start looking for another best friend. Just needed to unload my stress… I keep swearing “no more dogs”. Losing them is so hard. Try to remember them for the selfless gifts they give, unknowingly.

Sorry to hear that. I've been through it too. Time will heal.
The true price of a good dog is the heartbreak in the end.

Thanks for all of the responses. I usually don’t put myself out there like this but this time around has been rougher than with the other pups. Getting soft in my old age I guess. We all do!
