I know a reputable trapper who bought his license and couldn’t get tags. Come the following fall he catches an Otter while doing Beaver control. No problem as the season is open ! But he never got his Site Validation Coupons !
Reputable guy that has permission by local Warden to move incidental prior to contact. So he brings the Otter home and bright and early the next morning goes to Sporting Goods store where he bought license earlier when Coupons weren’t available. Requests his Coupons and validates the previous day being an honest law abiding trapper.
Jump ahead to registration day ! You couldn’t have legally caught an Otter because our records show you received your tags the day after your Validation date !
You good for nothing Poacher ! Otter is confiscated and the trapper loses sleep for the next month !
Thankfully the trapper had a stellar reputation in his County. They refused to prosecute him because of the circumstances.
Something needs changed !
Georgia law is once a child turns 16 they have to get a license. We always went turkey hunting for my son’s birthday. So, the day before his 16th birthday I’m trying to buy him a license online but can’t because he’s still 15. I call DNR and explain that we’ll be camping/hunting in an area with no cell coverage and I need to purchase his license the day before we leave. They tell me that I can either drive to where I can find coverage after midnight or go the next morning and find a place that sells a license before he can hunt/harvest a bird.
Needless to say he got his bird and “tagged” it later that evening when we went into town to get a celebratory birthday/kill dinner, lol.
