Natural point of aim I think would take over for me at that point honestly. I know when I've gotten charged by hogs in the thick stuff don't really have time to aim past get it pointing at them and we'll...but I carry a semi 9mm with 17 in the mag ...but different then a big bore revolver or something

In the heavy mountain laurel thickets of Virginia and west Virginia have had black bear try to run me over while being chased by hounds.Get centered good and fire. Not a real charge as the bear is simply trying to get away and I was in the trail the bear was getting out of there on,but the bear is coming at you and I want it dead.

I’m a terrible shot with sidearms. I can miss a coyote with one, and they are in a trap, four feet away. LMAO! Maybe the reason is that you don’t know where the heart lies in a coyote! https://youtu.be/Kw_XczXvq0Y?si=gZTYoSArJu8PKMEKIn my younger years I was a pretty good shot with my Hi-Standard Supermatic. My targets were only empty shotgun shells thrown out as far as I could and my natural POA could make the shells jump like all get out! Better than a couple of cousins anyway! LOL Maybe because I was a pretty fair welder with my eye/hand control but I don’t know if that means anything. In today’s world and at my age, nope, I’d call myself barely decent but I was single-shot, heart shooting coyotes when I quit coyotes!

A bear charge,I do not want a red dot scope.I do not want to be trying to line up a scope with a brown bear or grizzly charging me. just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use it , and it lines up faster than irons, if you are at point shooting range just don't use dot or irons not a scope in the traditional sense it is like a window with a heads up display all you do is look through the window and the dot is there unless your grip sucked but then your front sight wasn't there either
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

A bear charge,I do not want a red dot scope.I do not want to be trying to line up a scope with a brown bear or grizzly charging me. I do. I don't have to line up a red dot...where the dot is, the bullet follows. You can cover a bear skull with your front sight and still be off enough to hit a shoulder (which results in the bear dying hours or days after the human who fired the shot). I want whatever gives me the greatest odds of being able get a bullet in the bear's noggin while simultaneously releasing my bowels in terror

Greencountrypete I tryed a red dot scope and did not like it for close range shooting such as a bear charge. To much to think about.Keep it simple.Point aim and fire.Bring the handgun back down and fire again when your front sight comes across your target again. All takes practice.Alot of times that bear is not coming at you in a straight line either.

I can shoot a quarter at five yards, a human target at fifteen, and at thirty I can hit plywood. My hands aren't as steady as I would like. If I use a rest I can get a nice three inch grouping at 15 yards but it doesn't help me much in the woods.
Edit: iron sight. Never tried a scoped pistol.

I am outstanding with a handgun. .22 to .454 Iron sights only. I do paint the front sight with pink fingernail polish.
No experience with red dots.

I wouldn't say I'm any great shakes with a pistol, but I've killed a lot of stuff with one. All I packed cat hunting with hounds for years was a Ruler single six with a leupold 2 power scope on it. It all depends on how you are planning on using it. If you are going to take careful aimed shots at a stationary target a powered scope is the way to go, but they are practically useless at a moving target, you are back to point and shoot. And most pistols don't balance as well with one. Only red dots I ever messed with had too big a dot (like 3-5 MOA) for precision shooting, but were pretty fair for fast acquisition. Fiber optic or laser grip sights are faster in my opinion though, and if you are going to carry concealed are less bulky. My CC pistol is a polymer 357 that fits in my front pocket, which it wouldn't do with a red dot. I'm not extremely accurate with it and its low pro fixed sights, but with time I can hit a pop can at 10 yards every time, and in a hurry I can empty it into a paper plate at that range, which is farther than I would probably be shooting at an attacker. Good enough for what its for, but I wouldn't want to hunt with it.
