For decades I have declared March 1 or when I see my first geese as the First Day of Spring! Male Cardinals singing up a storm outside so it is definitely here.

Happy Spring to you Moosetrot!
What gets me excited about Spring is when the frogs start croaking and the peepers start peeping…Bear season!!

Forget groundhogs. Forget spring peepers. It's when the leaves fall off the pin oaks and roadkill skunks show up.
My theory on the skunks is they have been laying around half frozen all winter and when it finally warms up enough they can think straight...........they lose it......declare "I can't take it anymore" and decide to end it the only way they know how. They waddle off to the nearest road and jump in front of the first car or truck that happens by.
Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

My great grandmother always said that when the red-winged black birds show up it's spring.

Their is one historical figure that would have agreed that March 1st is a much better day than March 15th, "Beware the ides of March." " Et tu, Brute ? "

Moosetrot It felt better yesterday than today being down by the river. Yes it feels like kinda like spring. Will truly be spring when bulkhead bite off the landing by you. But that hasn't happened like it use too in many years.. I did see 6 swans heading north yesterday and couple on the ice off Lang drive.

Robins, Geese, Swans and Sandhills here. But no sap!
