No cats around me but I like my bait canine LIGHTLY tainted on average. I do use fresh bait at times. Especially woodchuck

Same for me, lightly tainted. Keep in mind tainted baits will draw a lot of attention from skunks, possums, coons and other unwanted catches.

Again, this is what works down here, so don’t be saying its wrong…I use both. I worn out the book “Land Sets and Trapping Techniques” by Mr. Charles Dobbins, there are other older books I have worn out. I have talked to some of the old timers of the heyday of trapping when fur was worth a lot of money and the conclusion I have come to is down here both work. It depends on what a particular animal is wanting at the time it comes by my set. Unlike a lot of places predators have immense food sources down here. With the dead hogs, deer gut piles, and etc, they really don’t have to struggle for a meal. For yotes and cats I mix it up. I never set one set for predators, so if it’s four wheeler trail that intersects a secondary road I will put one set with tainted bait, the other might get another flavor of tainted meat, or it might get a piece of beaver or nutria. The next set might not have bait (scent post) and have one with fresh bait, and…I found that mixing it up catches for me better than using brand X bait or using cut up Y. Best thing to do is try everything, but keep notes. You might find something in your area that works better than the rest.

tainted bait will usually out perform fresh bait depending on species trapping mink weasels and coon will generally like fresh bait first
