90% of the time my pistol shots are at about 5 feet and 99% of those shots hit in the exact spot I want them too. I miss a squirrel or rabbits head about 30% of the time at 25 yards or more. If I hunt rabbits or squirrels deliberately rather than taking a shot of opportunity I use a rifle. The most likely scenario I would need one to use as a weapon it will likely be 5 feet or so as well. So I dont own one. Chance of me getting in some kind of combat situation are a lot less than being in say a fatal car crash. I do use scopes on hi power rifles and some 22's. Odds are I will want to shoot out there a ways and I want better accuracy than I get with irons. Sometimes I do hunt deer with irons if I wont get 100 yard shot anyway. Sometimes with a pistol.

If you like red dots get a few. By all accounts you can shoot faster accurately. I just dont want to spend that kind of money just to keep up with the Jones's.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Kilt a swimming beaver out of a moving kayak once. Ruger single six 22 mag.
Generally, I struggle hitting the broad side of a barn from inside the barn.
Red dot on a pistol? I could be talked into one. I have one on a Ruger 44 mag carbine and I have had some remarkable success on running deer with that setup. Leave both eyes open and its like a video game watching that red dot moving across the deer as you follow through and slap the trigger like you do shooting doves with a shotgun.

Don't have any scopes and never cared if I was "good" or not, as long as I was good enough. I can shoot the little blue caps off of Clorox bleach bottles at 20+ yards. Does that qualify as good?

Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.
